100 COUNTRIES - 1 MILLION HEARTS - INSPIRING LIVES TO LIVE

One day, without even realizing it, I would stumble upon a person who would change my life. It was definitely in the most unlikely of circumstances, as you will soon realize.   It was back in 2012.  I had rented a home on the north shore of Long Island so that my newly adopted children could get to know their extended family.  Not for a 1 week vacation but for a full year, so that they truly had the opportunity to bond with their new relatives.  This was very important to me as my parents had died early on in my life and I wanted them to feel the love & support from their extended family.

I had to go for a physical and I found a nearby Doctor.  For me, even just an annual physical was a horrific experience.  Due to some early trauma, I guess I have a very severe case of what they call "white coat syndrome".  A simple visit to the Doctor's office has been known to trigger sky high blood pressure, panic attacks, vertigo and even complete blackouts that landed me in the Emergency Room with total amnesia where I didn't even know my name.  Unfortunately, this day seemed to be no different.  The nurse said my blood pressure was sky high and the Dr. would be in to talk to me shortly about going to the ER immediately.

Have you ever wondered why there was a thought, a circumstance, a conflict that you just couldn't conquer?  Perhaps it was even something physical, like it was for me.  I tell you this, as a trained Practitioner in Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP), I quickly began to tell me brain everything I had been trained to do.  Ground myself in reality, breath, think positive thoughts, relax, control my heartbeat, don't black out.... the Dr. will be in soon to retake my blood pressure and I can make it go down....  except it didn't.

It was my first visit to this new Long Island Doctor.  I explained to him that my blood pressure was fine, it was just that going to the Doctor caused it to skyrocket.  I told him I am the worst case he will ever see and this has been a lifelong issue for me that I just can't seem to conquer.

It was then that he put his hand on my shoulder and he asked me not to worry about that.  He told me that he was from India and he had recently been on a 6-month sabbatical to visit the Tibetan Munks.  He told me all about his spiritual journey and how much he had grown and how he had come to realize a very magical power that all of humanity could tap into.  

In the following months he taught this to me.  I experienced it.  He told me to turn off my brain, it is nothing but a computer.  A computer that is programmed to keep me safe.  A computer that is full of fear and is like a parent who is always screaming NO!  Don't do that, you'll hurt yourself.  Instead, he told me to listen to my heart.  And he taught me exactly HOW to do this.  This was truly one of the most amazing experiences of my life.

At the end of our time together, he asked if he could check my blood pressure again.  It was 120/60, absolutely perfect.    He said "You see, Your Heart Just Overwrote Your Brain".
